New IJsselmeer cutter for the Foppen family ready to begin eel fishing
With the commissioning of the HK-78 Heidi, the Foppen family of Harderwijk has expanded its fleet to seven vessels: three IJsselmeer cutters and four shrimp trawlers. Built specifically for eel fishing, the new vessel was officially handed over during a festive event on board the passenger ship Zuiderzee in Urk. The Heidi was designed by Peter Jeninga (styling) and Naval Consultant Herman Jansen (naval architecture), and constructed by VCU/TCD, with interior finishing by De Flux.

A new milestone in craftsmanship and collaboration
Last Saturday, the festive launching of the trawler Z-19 Brigitte took place at IBIS Constructie in Sumar. In the presence of family, colleagues, and guests, the 36-meter vessel, commissioned by the Belgian Thysebaerdt family, was solemnly christened and launched. Accompanied by an impressive show featuring sounds from shipbuilding and seafaring, the newly built trawler, designed by Naval Consultant Herman Jansen, received many compliments from colleagues from Belgium and the Netherlands.

A contemporary twinrigger designed for efficiency and future-readiness
Last week, the new twinrigger UK-24 Anna departed from Harlingen for her maiden fishing trip. The vessel, designed by Naval Consultant Herman Jansen, was completed in Urk by main contractor Hoekman Shipbuilding. Skipper-owner Albert Romkes reports that the first rounds over the fishing grounds went smoothly: "Everything is working properly. We are very satisfied." Due to COVID-19, an official handover was not organized, but both the builder and the owner are proud of the result.

A milestone in modern fishing vessel design
With the delivery of the TX-65 Bona Fide, a significant milestone was achieved: for the first time in decades, a shrimp trawler was fully built on Urk. Commissioned by Texel fisherman Erik Kalf and constructed under the leadership of the Fishery Cooperative Urk (VCU), the vessel was designed by Naval Consultant Herman Jansen. In early August, the TX-65 officially entered service — a proud result of craftsmanship, modern technology, and a forward-looking design philosophy.

Concorde design by Naval Consultant Herman Jansen proves its value once again
With the commissioning of the UK-46 Willeke, a proven design has once again successfully joined the Dutch fishing fleet. Built to the trusted Concorde concept developed by Naval Consultant Herman Jansen, the new beam trawler is the first of its kind to be added to the national fleet in over twelve years. Measuring just over 41 metres, the vessel was completed at Maaskant Shipyards in Stellendam, using a hull that had been in storage since 2006. Commissioned by the Hakvoort family of Urk, the UK-46 represents a strong signal of long-term confidence in the sector — even amid current market uncertainty.

Modern refit for a versatile twinrigger-flyshooter
With the extension and extensive modernization of the UK-151 Stellar, an existing vessel has been successfully prepared for the future. Originally built as the Norwegian VA22F, the vessel was acquired last year by the Quotter shipping company and reflagged to the Dutch fleet. The hull was extended by 3.60 metres at Nauta Shipyard in Poland, followed by further outfitting under the direction of Van Slooten Shipbuilding. Naval Consultant Herman Jansen was responsible for the design work and for updating the plans following major design changes. Last autumn, the vessel departed for her first voyage following the rebuild.

Designed for versatile offshore operations — from diving to survey and accommodation
With the commissioning of the Solution, DUC Marine Group of Urk has made a powerful addition to its fleet. This 53.88-metre-long and 11.50-metre-wide multipurpose vessel was designed by Naval Consultant Herman Jansen in Monnickendam and built under the direction of DUC itself. The hull was constructed at Shipcon in Dodewaard and transported to Urk in late December for final outfitting — involving a wide range of Urk-based subcontractors.
