International Energy Efficiency Certificate (IEEC)
New regulations for energy efficiency.
As of January 1st, 2013, new regulations for the energy efficiency of ships over 400 GT have come into effect under Chapter 4 of MARPOL Annex VI.
These new rules are set out in IMO Resolution MEPC.203(62) and are additional to the existing provisions of MARPOL Annex VI. The regulations require a new certificate: the International Energy Efficiency Certificate (IEEC), which is issued when a Ship Energy Efficiency Management Plan (SEEMP) is implemented onboard.
New certificate: International Energy Efficiency Certificate.
The new International Energy Efficiency Certificate (IEEC) is mandatory for all new and existing ships that fall under Chapter 4 of MARPOL Annex VI. For newbuild vessels, the certificate is issued during the initial survey prior to the vessel entering service. For existing ships of 400 GT or more, the certificate must be issued during the intermediate or renewal survey. The IEEC remains valid for the entire lifetime of the vessel, is ship-specific, and must be kept on board for inspection and audit purposes.
