Fire Control and Safety Plans

Naval Consultant Herman Jansen B.V. employs certified specialists in the preparation of fire control and safety plans for all vessel types. We operate under the supervision of all major classification societies and support shipowners, shipyards, and flag states alike.

Legal Obligation.

Under the SOLAS Convention (International Convention for the Safety of Life at Sea, 1972, including amendments), all seagoing vessels are required to carry at least three up-to-date safety plans on board. These plans must:

  • Be permanently displayed in a central location
  • Be installed at least twice outside the wheelhouse
  • Be housed in clearly marked, waterproof containers

Our Approach.

We provide complete support for creating, updating, or renewing fire control and safety plans. Depending on the available material, we work in the following ways:

A) From an existing paper-based general arrangement plan

  • Digitising the hardcopy drawing
  • On-board inspection to record current safety/firefighting equipment Integration of safety symbols and layout per class requirements
  • Optional: submission to classification society 

B) From an outdated paper-based safety plan

  • Same process as above, with additional verification and updates 

C) From an existing digital plan

  • Time- and cost-efficient if a usable file is available
  • On-board survey and update as needed, all according to class specifications

What’s included in our service?

  • Full production of a new digital fire and safety plan
  • Concept version submitted for client approval
  • Final version submitted to classification society (if requested)
  • Upon approval: delivery of three laminated board copies
  • Additional copies available on request (e.g. for training or office use)
  • Please note: classification fees are to be covered by the client.

Timeline.

The delivery time depends on:

  • The vessel’s availability and our planning
  • The complexity of the vessel
  • The quality of the original data provided Average lead time: 4–6 business days from on-board inspection
